Like in any craft, the best always distinguishes itself while also elevating the other books in its genre. Science fiction is no different. Throughout the many years that science fiction has been written, there have been so many great books that have come out.
Let’s take a look at several of the best science fiction books that have come out and that people should definitely read.
Dune
First up we have Frank Herbert’s Dune. Dune is somewhat like Game of Thrones, but only because of the many different factions in play.
In Dune, the whole universe is run by the spice melange. It is seen as somewhat of a drug, but a very valuable one. With it, people can live far longer than they ought to, be as young and fit as they can be, and reach new levels of knowledge and awareness not possible.
The universe is centered around a galactic emperor, with great houses supporting him. However, when the emperor begins to suspect that one of the heads of the houses, Leto Atreides, is coming to challenge his throne, a plot unravels for the downfall of House Atreides.
It is up to Paul Atreides, the son of Leto who has been trained to rule since birth and powered by mélange, to navigate through these plots, establish justice, and choose between being the harbinger of peace or destruction.
This is only a fraction of the plot of Dune. We dare not give away most of the plot as it is a fantastic tale that should be wholly experienced.
The world and characters of Dune are rich and full of life. The suspense and intrigue woven into each of the words will surely lead you to keep turning the pages.
Moreover though, the appeal of Dune comes from its author Herbert. Herbert was a very interesting person. He was in the navy, knew how to live and survive in nature, a biologist, and so many other things. All of his knowledge and experience came through the book in astonishing detail.
Dune is a fantastic book that talks about so many deep themes amidst its universe. These themes include religion, society, government, learning, and responsibility.
Foundation
Next up we have the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. It is a story about a man who has used mathematics to foresee the future. It is called psychohistory and was created by a man named Hari Seldon.
Apart from mathematics though, it combines many other bodies of knowledge to fit in to its equation such as history, sociology and many others.
The problem is that Seldon’s psychohistory foresees a bleak history in a time of galactic peace. The series of books spans many years, and takes readers on a ride through a society’s rise and fall.
